There is really one Dune and that's the one the studio released in the theatres and sat in the video store/DVD shelf. Either that or the not so bad TV mini-series. As someone that watched the original version a bunch before even knowing about/seeing the Redux, I've sort of been curious what someone that hasn't seen the original would think of the Redux as a film without knowing what was changed. I've always treated the original as sort of a curio anyhow since it's one of those movies where the director got ripped away before the final edit. I haven't touched the books in a while (though I do pore over the wikis sometimes when I'm bored), but I don't think it's too spoilery to say you'll probably like the Redux more, though that shouldn't stop you from checking out the original if you're just curious about it. Basically, just a neat chance at having a different impression of it before knowing what was changed between the two.
Is it worth watching David Lynch's original Dune No. Not only is the movie is horrid on its own merits, it is a very poor adaptation of the book. Yes, it was pretty. Though I disagree with many of the design elements as they were contradicted by specific descriptions in the books (e.g. Lynch's Navigators look nothing like those described by FH in the books). To be honest, while the production values (aka the budget) of the a miniseries are not nearly as high as a studio-funded major motion picture, SciFi network's attempt at a Dune adaptation with their miniseries 'Frank Herbert's Dune' was very faithful to the book.
